AFC Amersham 2 v Hambleden 5
Westwood Park at Little Chalfont was the destination for Hambleden last weekend with a visit to basement club AFC Amersham.
It took Hambleden a while to get used to blustery conditions but right from the off they dominated the game. A wave of chances fell to Hambleden inside the first 25 minutes, most notably a free header by Chris Francis straight at Amersham keeper Gary Honour.
Then against the run of play, and the wind, Amersham had a corner; a low driven delivery found Russell Wiseman at the near post and his shot ricocheted off Stuart Mcleod onto the post and into the net.
On 35 minutes Hambleden's persistence was rewarded; Adam North's first inswinging corner was turned over by Honour, but his next delivery to the back post found Ryan Kemp climbing above everyone to place his header into the bottom corner.
So 1-1 at the break, and Hambleden came out in the second half with the wind in their faces. Hambleden still created chances, but with limited success.
A triple substitution, which added new life into Hambleden's play, began to pay off. Kenrick Gordon dribbled his way through on 73 minutes but shot over from 12 yards, with only the keeper to beat. Another corner from North on 78 minutes found Jamal Maknin and his left foot volley was deflected on its way in.
From the restart Hambleden regained possession. Mcleod played in Gordon down the right and his pull back found Steve Sanashee unmarked who smashed home his 15th of the season. Then two goals in quick succession came on 84 minutes. The first coming from another substitute Matt Cook, following a North cross; Sanashee laid the ball into the path of Cook who finished well. The second goal was a result of the best move of the game. It started at the back with Kemp to Mcleod who switched play out to Gordon. Then inside to Maknin who found Cook on the edge of the box and his lay off was finished superbly by Mcloed who drilled his shot into the roof of the Amersham net.
Then into 5 minutes of added time, substitute defender Ryan Coles mistimed his challenge just inside the box, and Wiseman slotted home the consolation penalty. Final score 2-5.
