Match Report - Saturday 28th February 2009

Winchmore Hill 2  v  Hambleden 0

Hambleden travelled to Winchmore Hill last Saturday having already beaten them 5-1 at home back in November.

Both Matt Cook and Steve Sanashee had early chances but both blazed their shots over, and on 20 minutes Stuart Mcleod sent a left foot shot past the post from 40 yards.

Winchmore had a chance on 25 minutes; a route one kick from keeper Andy Robinson sent Matthew Pearce clear, but he shot wide.  Adam Markwell also went close for Hambleden, with a couple of headers, and Sanashee shot just past the post on 35 minutes, but Hambleden failed to break the deadlock.

It was a mistake by Hambleden defender Ryan Kemp that proved costly; on 47 minutes he lost the ball and Winchmore's Mark Cox drilled it into the top corner from 20 yards.

Hambleden then lost their way with the game becoming very scrappy and heated at times, as a few challenges from the hosts flew in.

It was Pearce who scored the decisive second goal on 70 minutes following a long throw into the box from Mark Hall; Pearce turned to smash the ball home from 6 yard after Hambleden failed to clear.  Final score 2 - 0, and so ended Hambleden's unbeaten run of six games.
