Match Report - Saturday 17th January 2009
FC Titans v Hambleden
Having not won since 29th November, Hambleden finished 2008 on a high by beating Penn & Tylers Green 'A' 6-2 away with goals coming from leading scorer Steve Sanashee with a brace, and one a piece for Ryan Kemp, Chris Francis, Adam Markwell and Dean Kemp.
Hambleden then hadn't played due to frozen pitches until Wednesday 14th January 2009 when they travelled to Watchet Lane, Holmer Green in the quarter-final of the Wycombe Senior Cup. Unfortunately Holmer Green's first team were just too strong for Hambleden, taking the tie 7-2. After taking the lead on 8 minutes through Steve Sanashee, Hambleden gave a really good account of themselves. Sanashee scored a second on 40 minutes to equalise at 2-2 and then 2 injury-time goals gave Holmer Green a 4-2 lead at the break. In total Andy Shed scored 6 and Steve Graves the other which completed Holmer's scoreline that definitely flattered them.
Back to league action last Saturday, and Hambleden travelled to Booker to face FC Titans, who beat Hambleden 2-1 in the first game of the season at the Dene.
Skipper Stuart Mcleod gave Hambleden the lead on 33 minutes with a free kick from 25 yards into the top corner. On the hour mark, Matt Cook doubled Hambleden's lead with a rocket from 12 yards.
Then a mad 10 minutes for Hambleden allowed Titans back in. First Mark Hobson failed to clear from a corner and Olly Lance had a free header on the line. Then a hopeful cross from D.Springer managed to avoid everyone on its way through a crowded box, and Adam Markwell failed to clear on the line.
Then 2 minutes from time, second half substitutes Chris Brunning and Dean Kemp combined to find Sanashee and he coolly smashed home from 8 yards for Hambleden's first back-to-back win in the league. Final score 2- 3.
