Wycombe Athletic 3  v  Hambleden 3
       After Penalties  :  Wycombe Athletic 4  v  Hambleden 3

This Tom Hooker League Cup 2nd Round tie was switched from the Rye in High Wycombe to the Dene in Hambleden, and it was the ?home team who dominated the game from the start.  As early as 5 minutes, Hambleden's Paul Rodrigues found himself clean through by Paul Vaughan in the Wycombe Athletic goal saved with his legs.  Then on 8 minutes, Jamal Maknin had a free header at the back post from an Adam North cross, but headed wide.

On 26 minutes Hambleden made the break through they deserved.  Another North cross to the back post found Matt Cook who volleyed against the post; the rebound fell to Steve Sanashee who smashed home from 8 yards.  Sanashee could have doubled his tally on 30 minutes; Maknin's defence splitting pass sent him clear but his shot went agonisingly past the post.

After the break Athletic had their first shot on goal on 47 minutes; a long ball out of defence found Louis Rose who went clear and tucked his shot into the corner.  Then against the run of play, Athletic had a second on 65 minutes; another punt forward sent Rose clear and his shot came down off the bar and Scott Waite headed home from 4 yards.

A corner on 72 minutes from Hambleden's Sanashee found his skipper Nikolai Lakovic who powered a header into the top corner to equalise.  It was his first goal in 2 years!  Chris Brunning had a chance to win it for Hambleden on 78 minutes, but his point blank shot was well saved by Vaughan.  At full time the score was 2-2.

10 minutes into extra time, and it was Hambleden who went ahead through second half substitute Kenrick Gordon; with a thunderbolt from 12 yards through a crowded box.

Then all Hambleden's work was undone 5 minutes into the second period of extra time, when North gave away a needless penalty, pulling back Wycombe?s Wayne Kato who was chasing a lost cause.  Waite stepped up and sent Michael Clarke the wrong way.  After extra time the score was still level (3-3) so penalties beckoned.

The penalty shoot-out saw both sides miss twice, then in sudden death Kato scored for Athletic and the normally reliable Stuart Mcleod missed for Hambleden, so sending Wycombe Athletic through to the next round.
