Match Report - 11 October 2008
AC Marlow 7 - Hambleden 1
AC Marlow's strike force of Mark Rawley (4 goals) and Neil Austin (2 goals) gave the hosts a convincing victory against a lacklustre Hambleden side, who only the previous week had taken higher league opposition to penalties in the County Cup.
Hambleden failed to clear as early as 3 minutes, gifting Sam Francis a tap in for Marlow's opener. Thankfully Matt Cook replied almost instantly, lobbing the keeper from 12 yards for the equaliser.
Then two more gifted goals and injuries to Jamal Maknin and Matt Cook added to Hambleden's first half woes. Score at the break 3-1.
The first goal after the break was to be important for Hambleden to get them back in the game, but it went to Marlow; a routine save for Hambleden's keeper was spilled into the path of Rawley who completed his hat-trick.
Hambleden had a couple of half chances that they failed to convert, and on the 72nd minute Rawley struck again, volleying home a cross from 12 yards out.
Two goals from Austin in the 82nd and 84th minute condemned Hambleden to their most embarrassing defeat and worst for several years. Final score 7-1.
Hambleden entertain fellow league strugglers AFC Amersham tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 2.30pm.
TEAM: Clarke, Francis, Hobson, Lakovic (captain), Marcus Cook, Sanashee, Maknin (Markwell 10), S.Stephen, Matt Cook (North 40), Gordon.
